PASTOR’S BIBLE STUDY FOR ADVENT
Faithful Christmas Through the Eyes of Joseph By Adam Hamilton
You are invited to join us for a Bible Study at PUMC, Wednesdays December 4, 11, and 18, at 9:30am or 7:30pm.
Explore the life of Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus Christ
From his beginnings as a humble carpenter to his all-important role as the earthly father of Jesus Christ, Joseph’s place in the nativity story is sometimes overlooked but contains valuable lessons for all of us. Join Adam Hamilton as he examines Christmas through the eyes of Joseph. Absent from much of the biblical narrative, Joseph never spoke a word, but his courageous actions were crucial to the birth of Christ and God’s salvation plan for humanity.
As you read this book, you will understand how Joseph’s story is much like our own. In life, we encounter circumstances that we would never have chosen for ourselves. At times it can be tempting just to walk away. Joseph provides us a great example of humbly obeying God even when we don’t understand and faithfully moving forward in the strength that God provides.
Exchange your doubt for courage this Advent and Christmas season. The story of Joseph provide us a great example of humbly obeying God even when we don’t understand and faithfully moving forward in the strength that God provides.
Chapter topics include:
A Carpenter Named Joseph
Whose Child Is This?
Raising a Child Not Your Own
The Journey to Bethlehem
The Rest of the Story
Each Christmas our altar is decorated with red and white poinsettias bought by members of our congregation in honor of or in memory of family and friends. If you would like to contribute a poinsettia for the altar please let Amy Clason-Gilmet know by December 1, 2019. The cost of the poinsettia is $11.25.
The poinsettias will be delivered to the church on Saturday December 21st for our Sunday Christmas service and Christmas Eve. Please feel free to take your poinsettia home after the Christmas Eve service.
MANAGING THE HEAT
As we enter the colder time of year we will have more need of heat. If you need to change the heat please do not press Hold on the thermostat. Please use the up and down buttons. When you are done hit the Run or Return button to return the heat to the scheduled temperatures, otherwise you may be heating an empty church for days.
Also, we have a couple space heaters in the church. It is very important that these are turned off and unplugged before you leave the church building. Please make sure this is attended to, whether you turned it on or not. These space heaters are a fire hazard if left on.
