The monthly meeting of the Men’s group was held on February 28. A breakfast meal provided for a time of fellowship and conversation as we continue to discover God’s plan for us. This was followed by a general discussion concerning our mission and purpose and the following statement was formalized:
“The Men’s group of the Peterborough UMC shall be a community of men whose purpose is to support the spiritual growth among men, helping men to mature as disciples of Jesus Christ as they encourage spiritual formation in others, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in service to the community.”
After agreeing on our mission we got down to some serious discussion concerning what activities we are interested in working on. There were certainly some good ideas that were surfaced. Initially, however, we decided to focus on providing support for the existing missions and programs of our church. We would like to see the sign-up book for worship volunteers filled with people willing to assist in worship service. To this end, a training / orientation class for potential liturgists and ushers will be conducted where everyone interested will be encouraged to attend. An announcement concerning the training will be forthcoming.
There were many other ideas that were surfaced during the meeting and we will certainly be moving forward on several fronts in the near future.
Normally we meet the last Saturday of the month. However, due to the planned Chicken and Biscuit dinner on March 28, the men will next meet at 8:00 AM on Saturday, March 21. If you are a man, won’t you join us?
