TIME FOR A WALK! Monadnock Hunger Walk Day – May 1st
Virtual Walk ‘Pick Your Date’ — April 1st – May 1st
Get out your shiny walking shoes and dust them off! It’s almost Springtime, and that means it’s time for the Monadnock Hunger Walk! It’s amazing to think of, but this year’s Walk will be the 5th Annual Monadnock Hunger Walk! I wonder, does this mean it’s becoming a tradition?
I hope so! It seems that this year, the need to raise funds for food pantries, food programs, and anti-hunger initiatives has been even more important. Our church has been so active with our food offerings. It is amazing to see the reaction of the pantry volunteers when Hiel and I show up with the offerings and gift cards! It’s important that you know just how deeply our food mission is appreciated!
Back to The Monadnock Hunger Walk, though! This year’s Walk will, once again, be a virtual event. As we continue looking for ways to help, we can gather a couple folks in our COVID pod, call around to our friends and family to ask for help raising dollars for local pantries and food programs. Choice is the crucial point, here. Folks can write donation checks to the pantries and programs of their choice – the places near and dear to them. The planning committee for The Monadnock Hunger Walk does publish a list of pantries and programs that have contacted us and asked for help with their ‘bottom line’, but really … a person’s gift is their gift to give where ever they see a need.
As April progresses and grass appears from under the snow, as you get the urge to take a walk, consider making it a ‘fun with a purpose’ act. Look for sponsorship forms and general Walk info sheets on the Monadnock Hunger Walk FB page. Print one out for your own benefit of keeping organized, make your calls, urge your sponsors to send their checks with ‘Monadnock Hunger Walk’ written on the memo line ( for the planning committee’s data collection), take a nice long walk and take some pretty photos of your views along the way or a selfie or two to share them on the Monadnock Hunger Walk FB page or in our church’s weekly Joys!
And thanks for caring and sharing your time and talents! Peace and Hope!

HUNDRED NIGHTS WEEKEND DINNER – Easter Sunday Feast – Sunday April 4th
It seems entirely appropriate that Easter people would provide an Easter Feast for those in need! The email call has gone out and already, many have signed on to help with the menu for our next Weekend Dinner for guests at Keene’s Hundred Nights Drop-In Center.
There’s still room to help, though! We know Easter weekend is a busy family time, so a cool menu has been planned so that volunteers can prepare their dishes and drop them at the church on Saturday, April 3rd, knowing that they will be stored in the church’s fridge overnight and delivered for Sunday dinner on Easter Sunday! This makes things much simpler, but still gets the job done!
So! Check out the updated menu below to see where you might be able to help! Dishes should serve 10 – 12 folks and be donated in covered foil containers that you don’t expect to have returned. Many thanks!
Our menu includes baked glazed hams, cool veggie side dishes, green salads, sweet treats, dinner rolls, and desserts. Much has been offered already, but there is still a need for:
2 veggie side dishes (suggestion – cool potato salad, cool carrot salad, or cool quinoa salad
2 large green salads (suggestion – simple greens and basic adds like cucumber and tomato)
1 platter of 2 dozen deviled eggs
1 dessert offering (suggestion – easy Texas sheet cake)
Please contact Susan Lindquist (or the church office) if you can help with the menu!

LENTEN READING CHALLENGE
Our church’s Sunday school families have been gifted a copy of these books to share during story time or read-aloud time during Lent. They’re both terrific stories about building and supporting community. If you’re curious about them and would like to do a quick read, contact one of the kids in Sunday school and ask to borrow their copy when they have finished it!
Share and share alike, is the motto! All for one and one for all!
If you’re a Sunday school kid and have someone older in mind to share your book with, send them a note and pass it on to them! Sharing takes at least two, right?

DON’T GET CAUGHT IN AN EMAIL SCAM
Several people in the New England Conference have received emails purporting to be from Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar or one of our District Superintendents using addresses ending in @gmail.com.
Those who have replied to these emails have been asked to purchase gift cards. This is a common tactic of scam artists. Conference leaders do not and will not ask for donations or other payments to be made using gift cards.
Do not reply to these emails. Do not purchase or send any gift cards.
Any legitimate email from the bishop’s office, district offices or others on the New England Conference staff will come from an address that ends in @neumc.org. Emails sent through our system, like this one, have addresses that end in @brtapp.com. Please, check the email of the sender carefully before responding.
If you are unsure or have any suspicions about an email purporting to be from the New England Conference, check with the appropriate office to confirm that it is legitimate before replying or taking any other action.
Here is an article from United Methodist News Service about how to avoid phishing scams. https://www.umnews.org/en/news/dont-be-a-phishing-victim
