PHISHING STRIKES AGAIN – Don’t take the bait!
Phishing is an attempt by cybercriminals posing as legitimate institutions or people to obtain sensitive information from targeted individuals.
Phishing happens when someone creates a fake account using your profile picture. We have seen this happen in both Facebook and Gmail. The impersonator right-clicks to save their profile photo. They create an account with the same name and photo. Your Facebook friends list is public, so they just click through all of them and friend request them. Or in Gmail they email people who might know you asking for a gift card or for you to reveal sensitive personal information.
When someone is phished they have not been hacked, they don’t have to change their password. The phisher never had access to their password (but it is wise to change your password periodically just in case).
If you suspect someone was phished you should contact the person in question and ask them if they created a new account, by messaging the old account or emailing/calling. Often people will post on their wall if they started a new account, or know they got phished. Don’t engage with the new account/email until you hear from them from another source.
If you accept that friend request the impersonator now has access to whatever is available to friends on your profile, often contact information. They can then sell your contact information like email and home address to mailing lists. They can search your posts for financial information; their ultimate goal is to gain financially.
If this happened to someone you know you should report the phishing account. Go to the new profile and click on the More/3 dots menu on the right. Select fake account. In Gmail to report it you can click the More/3 dots menu and select Report phishing.

3 Rules to Avoid Phishing:
1. Stop and think before clicking any links or attachments, don’t click, hover to discover.
2. If things look “phishy” verify with the sender through a different medium.
3. “When in doubt, throw it out.” If you didn’t expect it, reject it.

COVID PROCEDURES AT PUMC

PUMC will continue to be offering in-person worship.
If you have cough, fever, or other symptoms of Covid, please worship with us online.
Please sign in on the clipboard at the entrance to the sanctuary. This is important for contact tracing purposes.
Please remember to use the hand sanitizer as you enter the church.
Masks must be worn in the building. We recommend KN95 or N95 masks. Masks are available near the hand sanitizing station at the entrance to the sanctuary.
Please maintain a 6 ft distance from others when in the church building. That means sitting in pews that are distanced, with your family or pod, as well as standing about before services begin. (One whole cow = 6 feet)
Please do not linger in the fellowship hall after church. We recommend exiting to the parking lot and sharing fellowship outside in the open air.
Children’s Sunday School is canceled until further notice.
