PUMC BOOK GROUP – April 19, 1:30p

After a serious discussion surrounding the book, Shaking the Gates of Hell, the group decided that a much lighter read is needed for the next book. Interest was captured by a quick description of Miss Eliza’s English Kitchen by Annabel Abbs.
It is a light story about friendship and class struggle during the Victorian era. Think ‘Upstairs, Downstairs’ or Downton Abbey meets light reading. The group will discuss whether to meet in person in April. Exciting prospect! Stay tuned!
The book is available in Kindle, Audible, as well as paperback and hardcover at bookstores and through public library loan. If you need assistance in getting the book, contact Susan Lindquist, Ann Hampson, Ellen Derby, or the church office! We’ll be able to help you out! All are welcome at PUMC Book Group!
Next meeting is April 19th at 1:30 PM. Location … stay tuned!

PUMC SPRING YARD SALE – LET’S GET BACK IN GEAR WITH CHURCH EVENTS!
The Ad Council has given its blessing on arranging for a Springtime Yard Sale to be held at our church. A group of helpers is needed to begin making plans, getting any needed permits, getting dates set for collection of donations, organizing display, and arranging for dispersal of any unsold items at the end of the day.
A tentative date might be Saturday, June 4th. Let’s get together and talk about things! Join a quick chat after church on Sunday, March 27th in the church fellowship room. Coffee will be on!

A NOTE ON EMAILS
This is a brief note concerning emails to church people, present and past. To ensure that PUMC emails are not being inadvertently sent to past members or prior pastors, we would ask that you review your email contacts. Please make especially sure you do not have any group contacts that contain email addresses for pastors Lourey, Lena or Kathleene. Also, if you have ever sent or received emails to or from the pastor you probably have an entry for them in your contacts. Unless you intend to keep personal contact with them you should delete those entries. Note that Kathleene Card is an exception because she remains a PUMC attender, just in a different role.

RINGING OF THE BELLS

Peterborough churches will be ringing their steeple bells every Thursday at 4:30 pm for 5 minutes. The first day of the invasion into Ukraine was Thursday, February 24, 2022. Bell ringing will begin Thursday, March 17, 2022 and will continue once a week. The ringing bells will serve as a reminder of the on-going war in Ukraine and the impact on its people.
When you hear bells ringing on a Thursday afternoon, pause and reflect on our relative safety here in the Monadnock Region, offer prayers for peace in Ukraine, and consider ways in which you could offer support. Other community groups are encouraged to join PUUC and the Interfaith Council in this effort to remind all of the need to work for peace.
