PEACE WITH JUSTICE OFFERING, Sunday August 25
In Arizona border towns, communities facing social challenges are dramatically divided. In Liberian villages, citizens’ human rights are being violated. In local U.S. communities, women and girls are being bought and sold against their will.
Moved by Christ’s love to pursue reconciliation and peace, honoring the dignity of every individual made in God’s image, The United Methodist Church is unwilling to turn a blind eye to injustice.
Although you, and possibly even your congregation, may lack the resources alone to effect change in a broken world, your giving is vital for the UMC to continue its global ministries of reconciliation. Because of the Peace with Justice Sunday offering, the people of The United Methodist Church are able to make a difference together by sowing seeds—and yielding fruit!—of peace.
Because you give:
Methodists spearhead a peace ministry uniting Arizona border communities
United Methodists in Liberia are being equipped to implement the denomination’s Social Principles to address social-justice issue
Pennsylvania students are educating their community about sex-trafficking at home and abroad
These initiatives, and hundreds of other ones, are possible because you give.
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19)

BACKPACK REPORT
The 13 backpacks, stuffed with lunch boxes and school supplies, were delivered to Monadnock Area Transitional Shelter and Shelter From the Storm this week. We as a church were able to raise $525 for this project!
Thanks to your generous donations, our church was able to outfit these 13 children AND 3 more from a family that just arrived at SFTS this week. The three new backpacks and lunch boxes are in the way to this family and SFTS is very grateful.

THANKS AND PRAISE!
VBS is in the bag! Thanks to everyone involved in this year’s Vacation Bible School! What a fun and dedicated group of folks! We had Bible stories about God’s heroes, fun music, crafts, capes and masks, games and goodies, food and cool drinks, and fun new friends! Blessings all around!
Thanks to everyone who contributed in some way to stocking backpacks for the child of Shelter From the Storm and MATS. There is NOTHING like super cool new ‘stuff’ for the first day of school! The kids are going to be stoked to get back to classes (and lunch/snack time) with all their new materials!
Summertime time away is so precious! Thanks and gratitude for places by the lake, in the woods, by the ocean that provide rest and relaxation. The beauty of sunrises and sunsets with a hot cup of coffee or tea is so valuable to the spirit – the quiet times and unstructured days are priceless.

HOMECOMING SUNDAY
Coming Up! Homecoming Sunday is coming fast. This year, Homecoming Sunday Service and Pot-Luck Luncheon will be held on September 15th. Welcome back to the nest! If you would like to help with this annual church event, come on down for a planning meeting on Wednesday, September 4th at 6:30 PM at the fellowship hall. We’ll decide on decorations, food, flowers, etc. We can divvy up planning tasks and get things all together.

BOOK GROUP
Coming Up! PUMC Book Group is getting back together after having a summer break. The group will meet at Ken and Charlene Schultz’s home on Tuesday, August 27th at 1 PM. Car pools leave from our church at 12:30 PM, if you would like to get a ride. This month’s book is a tome, but boy, is it a good one! Pachinko, a family saga by Min Jin Lee follows a Korean family through the times of Japanese colonization of the Korean peninsula, through WWII, and into post war life. If is a real page-turner! If you’re interested in starting up with PUMC book group, come for the discussion and bring a suggested book for the September meeting! Our group decides on the next read at each meeting and it’s a pretty democratic process! The more, the merrier! We’re finding that the more folks that are involved the more rich the discussion becomes! Have questions? See Laura or Ken Constantine, Carol Owen, Ann Hampson, Charlene or Ken Schultz for their thoughts on book group!

UMW – QUICK EXIT BAGS
Peterborough United Methodist Women are gearing up! Come September, we’re making ‘quick exit bags’ for MCVP – The Monadnock Center for Violence Prevention. These bags are
handed to a client when they walk through the door of the shelter, after having to leave an abusive or otherwise dangerous situation with little notice. If you are willing to sew up some of the bags, see Susan Lindquist. If you have ideas for collecting hygiene products, new sleeping attire, journals and reading materials, gift cards at area stores, please contact one of the officers of the United Methodist Women – Carol Owen, Laura Constantine, or Susan Lindquist. The group will be sewing the bags in September and stocking them at the end of the month so they can go to the Center by mid-October.
